Day 32 - Part 2

In the evening I went to the 'Dult' event. I guess they call it that because it is at Dultplatz. I walked the 2km to it and as I walked I was part of a stream of people walking to the same place. I didn't have to look at a map or ask directions, I just followed people in Bavarian costumes. Lots of busty dresses, checked shirts and lederhosen.

As I got there I saw a very large fun fair and stalls. Fairs in the UK are normally tacky kinds of places but this was nothing like that. Then I heard loud music and saw a massive marquee. It was crammed full of people in costume standing on bench seats, dancing, singing and drinking bier. There was a band on stage that played non stop a mix of chart pop music and Bavarian pop. I have never seen a place bouncing so much. There was a massive roar as someone tried to climb one of the central poles in the middle of the marquee. Every now and then men and women would climb the pole and ring a bell at the top. The people were mainly young but there was a good mix of age groups. Of course, there was a lot of drinking from litre tankards and everyone was dancing and singing without any problems whatsoever. No yobbishness at all. It would be different back home!! Neither my description or the photos really do this justice. I managed two and a half litres of bier and thought that was enough.

I had a walk around the fair and treated myself (if that's the right word) to a curry wurst. That's a sausage in a spicy curry sauce and a bread bun. The fun fair had all the big rides but I was not going to try any of them in case the bier and the curry wurst reappeared! I found a second big marquee which was also full and bouncing in the same way as the first. Fantastic. If only we could enjoy ourselves as much and organise great public events without trouble. Even better, there was no entry fee or ticket.

All the other room occupants were asleep when I got back at the unearthly hour of 11.45pm. I don't think I was tipsy but I wasn't totally sober either but I tried to be quiet getting into bed and climbing onto the top bunk. I tried to be quiet again when I made a nature visit at 2am. The good bit was that I didn't fall when ascending or descending the ladder. Agility isn't one of my qualities!

Photo 2, Those litre tankards are heavy. I don't know how the waitresses managed carrying six in a hand!

Photo 4, Second marquee rocking like the first.
