I have wanted to have a major European cycling adventure for the last three years. It seems to be rather self indulgent but I now have the time and opportunity to do it. My plan is to cycle solo along the Eurovelo 6 cycle route from St Nazaire on the Atlantic coast of France to Constanta on the Black Sea. It totals around 3600km. See http://en.eurovelo6.org for further info on the route.
No, I have never done anything like this before. My biggest cycling tours have been Coast to Coast rides or similar distances in the UK. I am now 51 years old, so I'm not a spring chicken. I intend to do the route over a 3 month period starting in April 2013 so that I get a chance to have some rest days and to enjoy the places that I travel through instead of cycling hard with my head down and consequently not enjoying the experience. My flight to Nantes is now booked and I am committed to going.
This is my first attempt at Blogging. It seemed a good idea to do a blog of the trials and tribulations of the journey. It would be great if you can follow the blog and send me messages of encouragement (I will need them). The blog will start in earnest nearer the start date. I would like to thank my friends and family for allowing me the luxury of this extended adventure.
